Air Europa, the first Spanish company to have the new Boeing 737 MAX

Air Europe incorporate 15 Boeing aircraft, five of them Boeing 787-9 ‘Dreamliner’, for its long-haul fleet, and ten Boeing 737 MAXfor the short and medium distance, which will begin to be delivered at the beginning of 2024. The order will be completed throughout 2026.

As reported by Air Europa, the company has reached an agreement with AerCap Holdings, the world’s largest lessor in the aviation sector, for the leasing of these fifteen new deviceswhile announcing another, reached with Boeing, to work together in the continuous process of modernizing its fleet.

The airline has indicated that the agreement with AerCap is “particularly important” not only because of the volume of the order, but, above all, because Air Europa will be the first Spanish company to add the new Boeing 737 MAX model to its fleet.

The company has explained that the agreement will make it possible to convert the Boeing 787 ‘Dreamliner’ and the new Boeing 737 MAX “into the backbone” of its fleet.

Recovery of routes and frequencies

Throughout this year, Air Europa has carried out an expansion of its fleet around Boeing models to respond to the “notable” increase in the demand for seats and the reactivation of the sector after the pandemic, the company recalled.

This has made it possible to recover routes and frequencies with its main destinations around the world, especially in America, and to strengthen its key position in the hub (connection center) of the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport.

The deals with Boeing and AerCap come a few weeks after IAG exercised the option to convert the €100m loan made to Globalia into a 20% stake in Air Europa.

On the other hand, last July, Jesús Nuño de la Rosa, who had spent most of his career as head of the El Corte Inglés Travel Agency, was appointed the new CEO of Air Europa, to be in charge, together with the general management, to consolidate the expansion phase initiated by the airline.
