The Mexican opposition has not yet recovered from the 2018 electoral disaster. The three main forces opposed to Morena agreed on an alliance to try to confront the ruling party. For now, however, the coalition made up of the PRI, the PAN and the PRD, baptized as He goes to Mexico has obtained especially significant results. They will try again in the 2024 presidential elections, although the first problem is the lack of strong leadership. The PRI leader Alexander Moreno, is under the scrutiny of the Prosecutor’s Office, while the former PAN candidate Ricardo Anaya left the country amid accusations for the Odebrecht case. At the same time, Movimiento Ciudadano tries to grow by taking advantage of its image as a non-traditional opposition force. However, voters have their favorites to head the lists of those formations. According to a survey by the consulting firm Enkoll for EL PAÍS and W Radio, Anaya himself, the PRI senator Beatrice Walls and the mayor of Monterrey, Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas, lead those preferences.

In a question open to voters of all parties, the former PAN candidate leads the internal contest by the least, followed by the federal deputy Margaret Zavalaformer first lady, and Lilly Tellez. The senator for Sonora, a journalist for decades, went to the forefront of politics with Morena, until she broke with Andrés Manuel López Obrador and joined the bench of the opposition party. The veteran deputy closes the range of possible candidates Santiago Creek, today vice president of the lower house, although the real winner of this projection is the undecided vote, which reaches 45% in the table of gross preferences.

The panorama of the PRI reflects one of the most relevant recent internal movements. Senator Beatriz Paredes is in the lead with a wide advantage over her opponents. The politician stated that she wants to seek a candidacy and is convinced of the opportunity for the opposition forces to join forces. Paredes was governor of Tlaxcala, president of the Chamber of Deputies, ambassador to Brazil, and led the PRI. Behind her, with less than half of the votes, are the Secretary of the Interior under the mandate of Enrique Peña Nieto, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong, the former Secretary of Tourism Enrique de la Madrid and, finally, the Governor of the State of Mexico, Alfredo del Mazo.

In Movimiento Ciudadano all the flowers are for Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas, Mayor of Monterey The alderman has been appearing in the pools of the young promises of national politics for some time, also driven by the symbolic weight of his father, a former PRI presidential candidate assassinated in 1994, four months before the presidential elections. Samuel Garcia, the governor of Nuevo León with whom he campaigned in 2021, is very far from him, as is the governor of Jalisco, Enrique Alfaro, or Dante Delgado, founder of the organization.
