Galactic fingers comb Berenice’s hair on this beautiful telescope picture

A spiral galaxy adorns Berenice’s hair in a surprising telescope picture.

Though Charles Messier famously developed a catalog of celestial bodies Within the 18th century, which incorporates this galaxy, formally referred to as NGC 4254, NASA writes that one other French astronomer named Pierre Mechen found it in 1781. However its most well-known observer is the one represented by the spiral galaxy’s well-liked nickname, Messier 99.
