Gueye, center forward of 1.95 of the Belgian Oostende, in Zaragoza
Makhtar Gueye, a 1.95-meter-tall center forward for Belgium’s Oostende FC, has arrived in Zaragoza on the afternoon of this Monday to pass the medical examination and be presented as a new reinforcement from Zaragoza on Tuesday. A 24-year-old native of Senegal, he was close to signing with England’s Burnleywhich plays in the Championship (Second Division), but a synergy movement has derived its immediate future towards the Aragonese club. It is a complex operation, three bands, which the club has not yet confirmed in the early hours of the night on August 29.
Gueye responds to ‘tank ram’ model, a giant ‘9’ of physical presence, is right-handed and is used to being the reference of the team’s attack in the rival area. Captured as a teenager in the academies that various agencies have in sub-Saharan Africa when he played for Union Sportive Gorée in Dakar, the Senegalese capital, his first destination in Europe was France’s historic Saint Ettener, to play in its subsidiary, in the 4th gala category, in the 2018-19 league, just four seasons ago (he participated in 17 games and scored 5 goals).
His progression has since gone through the Saint Ettiene’s own first team, in which he debuted in the First Division at the end of that same season (5 games, with one goal); Later, in the pandemic league, he went on loan to Nancy, in the French Second Division, where he was lined up 20 times with 5 goals to his credit.
Two years ago he left France to go on to try his luck in the Belgian competition, at Oostende, which has been his club in the last two years. In his debut in Flemish lands he played 33 games and scored 11 goals; and last year, his record was 35 games played with 12 goals.
His morphology, corpulent striker to an extreme degree (his 1.95 is enlarged with his weight and physical presence, close to 90 kilos), drew attention this summer in English football, accustomed to fishing in the leagues of central and northern Europe. Finally, when Burnley came to consider him signed a few days ago, there has been a turn in the negotiations that has led to Gueye in Zaragoza.
The player belongs to the SEG agencybased in the Netherlands and with the participation of the Spaniard Pere Guardiola, in which shares a team with the former Zaragoza player Haris Vuckic. If this signing is confirmed -under the transfer format and in coordinates that will be known in due course-, Gueye would be the second Senegalese in the history of Real Zaragoza, after midfielder Guirane N’Daw, who played some games the year of relegation last, in the 2012-13 league, and that curiously came from Saint Ettener to that team that governed Agapito Iglesias.
