“It was a shock and a tragedy”

the swedish director Ruben Ostlund expressed his sorrow at the death of Charlie Dean, the South African actress and model whom he directed in The triangle of sadness.

Died in a New York hospital aged 32 from “a sudden and sudden illness”, Dean had had a quiet film career until her work in Östlund’s film caught the attention of critics. However, the hopes that the film would make her a prestigious actress were dashed forever with her death.

“Charlbi’s sudden death is a shock and a tragedy,” the director now writes. “It is an honor to have known her and to have worked with her. Charlbi’s affection and sensitivity encouraged her colleagues and the entire film crew. The idea that she will not be with us in the future makes me very sad.”

Ruben Östlund concludes his message by expressing his condolences to Charlbi Dean’s family and to her partner, the model Luke Volker.

On May 29, after the victory of The triangle of sadness in Cannes, Dean congratulated Östlund with a loving message On Instagram. “You are the best of all time. Thank you for trusting me,” the actress wrote at the time. “I can’t believe I had such a great year doing this during one of the toughest periods of my life.”
