MotoGP | Aleix: “Sparks are going to fly”
Aleix Espargaro He is second in the MotoGP World Championship, 32 points behind the championship leader, fabio quartararo. The rider from Granollers, at 33 years old, is in the best position of his entire career to fight for a world championship. His rivalry with Quartararo and Bagnaia on the track does not affect the personal, since among the three candidates for the title they have a good personal relationship. This situation has not been common in the past when Márquez, Lorenzo, Rossi or Casey Stoner had a bad relationship with their rivals on and off the track. “I am a person who warms up quickly, everyone knows it, but I have a hard time getting along badly with someone”, says Aleix to the podcast ‘By Ears’ motorpsort.
The Catalan driver believes that as the races progress and the distances can get shorter, the tension between the teams and the drivers will increase as everyone has interests at stake: “I’m already telling you that at this end of the championship sparks are going to fly, I’m going to continue to be regular, but there will be a moment, with two or three races to go, when if I’m 20 or 30 points behind, I’m going to go with the knife between the teeth”. He also comments that on Saturday in Austria, Carlos Ezpeleta told him that maybe he liked that Quartararo went to apologize to his box after the Assen accident, “But people don’t want that, people want the pique”says Aleix about the words of the sports director of Dorna.
“I was wrong”
Aleix also acknowledges his relationship with Márquez, although they had a small disagreement in FP2 of the Spanish GP. The one from Honda followed the wheel to win slipstream with Aleix’s bike and the one from Granollers did not like the action. “After what happened with Marc, I have already publicly acknowledged that I was wrong, and although I think that at the time I was right, I would not have had to say it, because in the past I have also followed many wheels. But I didn’t feel good, because I have a good relationship with Marc and I felt bad that all that controversy was created “, clarifies the pilot. The man from Aprilia also confesses that he met with Márquez to wish him luck with his shoulder operation. “Before he went to the United States to have surgery, I went to see him at his ‘motorhome’, we talked about it and we fixed it because it is very difficult for me to get along badly with someone,” he explains.
