Santander hires its new global head of markets at Barclays | companies
The Santander group has just hired its new head of global markets, Mike Bagguley, at Barclays, who has more than 30 years of professional experience, most of it at the British bank. This is a newly created position. that unifies business regional markets under a single leadership. Here are the solutions of risk management, investment products and trade execution services. Bagguley will work within the Santander Corporate & Investment Bank (Santander CIB) area.
The manager has spent most of his career at Barclays, where he has held multiple managerial roles within the markets business, directing macro products, foreign exchange, commodities or options operations. He was also director of the markets business at ABSA Bank (South Africa), where he led the integration and transformation of the business following the acquisition of Barclays. Most recently, he was COO of Barclays International and Barclays Investment Bank, responsible for technology, operating platforms, risks and controls with the aim of bringing greater business agility.
José María Linares, global head of Santander CIB, explains in a note that the financial markets business “is a strategic pillar for Santander CIB and the group. This appointment will help us strengthen our global capabilities and accelerate growth. I am sure that Mike is the right person to take our markets business to the top.”
