The second round of the US Open provided a convincing win for Carlos Alcaraz against the Argentine Coria (2-6, 1-6 and 5-7).
The Murcian’s victory was based on the two first sets, in which his game grew exponentially. The clash started even but the Spaniard managed to break in the fifth game and, from there, he packed: he fell the first and the second set with hardly any opposition.
The third quarter was walking along the same path when Coria seemed to react. It was as much his merit as Alcaraz’s excess of relaxation, which saw how from 2-4 it went to 5-5. The clash was far from being settled, but the Spanish tennis player managed to recover to take the next two games and finish the match. The clash leaves good feelings, with the only pending issue for Carlos to close the matches before.
Now, Alcaraz will face American Jenson Brooksby in the third roundagainst which he should not have any problems going to the round of 16.
“Today I felt better than the first day, I’m improving and I hope to continue like this in the next game“, declared an Alcaraz satisfied with his performance. His path to world number one is still free of obstacles… for now.
