Tokyo, Aug 31 (.).- The Chinese digital giant Tencent (HK:) and the Japanese technology conglomerate Sony (TYO:) will acquire minority stakes in the Japanese video game firm FromSoftware, as announced today by the parent company of this company that created the success “Elder Ring”.

Sixjoy Hong Kong Limited, a subsidiary of Tencent, and Sony Interactive Entertainment, the Japanese group’s electronic entertainment subsidiary, will respectively acquire 16.25% and 14.09% of the video game developer.

The Japanese corporation Kadokawa, parent of FromSoftware, will keep a majority stake of 69.66%, as announced in a statement on Wednesday.

The volume of investments of the subsidiaries of Tencent and Sony in the operation will amount to 36.4 billion yen (263 million dollars).

Among the most recent titles developed by FromSoftware is “Elden Ring”, a multiplatform role-playing and action video game set in a fantastic world designed by renowned Japanese creator Hidetaka Miyazaki with the collaboration of writer George RR Martin, author of the adapted novel series to television as “Game of Thrones”.

With more than 16 million units sold worldwide as of last June, “Elden Ring” is considered one of the biggest hits of the year in the video game market.
