The doctor who treated Diana of Wales tells how her last moments were

The August 31, 1997 The world was shocked at the unexpected news of the Diana, Princess of Wales, died at the age of 36. The car accident, which occurred on the Alma Bridge in Paris, also claimed the lives of his partner, Dodi Al Fayed, and the driver of the vehicle. Thus, 25 years after the event, Frederic Mailliez, the first doctor who treated Lady Di and one of the last people to see her alive, still remembers the scene he found on that bridge: “I realize that my name will always be associated with this tragic night“.

Mailliez has told Associated Press that night he was coming home from a party when he saw a smoking Mercedes, almost split in half, on the Parisian bridge. When she opened the door she saw that, of the four passengers, only the two on the right showed signs of being alive.

Since the man in the front seat was in better condition, Mailliez decided to attend to the woman. She “was on her knees on the floor of the Mercedes” with her head down and trouble breathing. The doctor called the emergency services and searched his car for a breathing bag that helped him regain “a little energy, but couldn’t say anything“.
