Tribute to the U-20 and European U-19 world champions
Sep 1 from 2022
Athletic Club will pay tribute in San Mamés to the young red and white players Ane Elexpuru, Clara Pinedo, Maite Zubieta and Amaia Martínez in the matchday four match of LaLiga against RCD Espanyol. The red and white soccer players will take the honorary kick-off before the initial whistle against the Catalan team.
The four Biscayans have lived an intense summer full of successes with the Spanish team. First, they were crowned champions of the European Under-19 Championship played in the Czech Republic in July. Ane Elexpuru was also the protagonist in the final, scoring one of the two goals in the comeback against Norway in Ostrava.
With hardly any time to rest, and due to a forced postponement due to the pandemic, the U-20 World Cup was held in Costa Rica in August, in which Elexpuru, Pinedo and Zubieta once again won the gold medal, scoring a double in just two months, by beating Japan 3-1.
To date, there were only three world champion players in lower categories of Athletic Club. There are three footballers who are in the first team: Paula Arana, Nerea Nevado and Naroa Uriarte. They won the U-17 World Cup on December 1, 2018 in Uruguay, 2-1 against Mexico.
The San Mamés public is asked to attend the match against RCD Espanyol well in advance to participate in the tribute to the red and white youth squad.
