Ukraine | Inspectors of the UN atomic verification agency arrive in Zaporizhia
EITHERObjective: To avoid a new Chernobyl.
Inspectors from the UN atomic verification agency arrive in Zaporizhia. They will enter the nuclear power plant this Thursday.
The inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency have defined their mission in Ukraine when they arrive in the city of Zaporizhia, located about two hours from the nuclear power plant.
The Director General of the UN International Atomic Energy Agency, Raphael Grossi he explained: _”My mission is a technical mission. It is a mission that seeks to prevent a nuclear accident and preserve this important, the largest, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe._The mission will last a few days, and if we are able to establish a permanent presence, or rather a continuous presence, then it will be prolonged. But this first segment, so to speak, is going to last a few days.”
The inspectors are expected to arrive this Thursday at the plant, located about 150 kilometers from Zaporizhia. Ukraine has appealed to Russia to stop bombing that road.
Russia has said it is not ruling out the idea of the IAEA leaving a permanent mission at the plant, which is in Russian hands and has been the scene of several attacks in recent weeks.
Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of carrying them out.
