Ukraine launches a major offensive in the south to recapture Kherson

Ukraine has broken through Russian enemy lines in several places near the city of khersonin the south of the country, conquered by Moscow. Kyv is immersed in a new campaign to recover this territory, while the Kremlin maintains that the Ukrainian counteroffensive has failed.

Kyiv’s offensive comes after several weeks of relative stalemate in a war that has killed thousands, displaced millions of Ukrainians and destroyed cities and towns, sparking a global food and energy crisis amid unprecedented economic sanctions.

“I must point out today that the (Russian) defenses were broken within a few hours,” announced Oleksiy Arestovych, senior adviser to Ukrainian President Volodimyr Zelensky.
