Withdrawn a drug against hypertension due to a health alert
It has been withdrawn from the market due to an out-of-specification result in the titration, hardness and related substance tests.
According to Aemps, it is Enalapril Alter 20 milligrams, manufactured by Toll Manufacturing Services for Alter Laboratories. This medicine has been withdrawn from the market due to an “out of specification result in the valuation, hardness and related substances tests”. It is a drug used to treat hypertension and symptomatic heart failure in patients with asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction. Specifically, the affected batch is 499R, with an expiration date of July 31, 2023, from which all distributed units have been withdrawn.
Enalapril tablets contain an active substance called enalapril maleate. It belongs to a group of medicines called angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors).
What Enalapril Alter is used for
This drug is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), treat heart failure (weakened heart function). It can reduce the need to go to the hospital and can help some patients live longer, preventing signs of heart failure. Signs include: shortness of breath, tiredness after light physical activity such as walking, or swelling of the ankles and feet.
This medicine works by widening the blood vessels. This lowers your blood pressure. The medicine usually starts to work within an hour and the effect lasts for at least 24 hours. Some people will need several weeks of treatment until the greatest effect on their blood pressure is seen.
